Hamburg: new hearings for the trial of Erdal GͶkoğlu
Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at 9 am was held in the court of Hamburg in Germany the trial of Erdal GökoÄŸlu, Turkish political opponent.
A new hearing of Erdal GökoÄŸlu's trial was held at 9 am on 16 January 2019 at the Hamburg court in Germany.
For 25 months, he has been incarcerated in total isolation. According to the German justice, he would be an official leader of the DHKP-C, Revolutionary People's Liberation Party-Front, classified as a terrorist organization.
After 6 years of imprisonment in Turkey, Erdal Gökoglu was recognized in 2007 as a Turkish political refugee by Belgium where he lived since 2002. Opponent of the Ankara government, he survived several massacres of detainees in Turkey to denounce among other things the existence of F-type isolation cells. He has been suffering since Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome.
Following an international arrest warrant issued by Germany, Erdal Gökoglu was arrested on 13 November 2017 in Belgium and extradited to Hamburg in Germany where his trial began on 7 June 2018.
Since the abortive putsch of July 2016, Turkey has issued thousands of arrest warrants via Interpol thus holding the sad monopoly of the number of arrest warrants issued. For several years, Germany, through Law 129b allowing it to judge revolutionary militants for "belonging to a terrorist organization" even if it isn't considered as such in Germany, participates in the repression of opponents of the Turkish regime who managed to leave their country.
