Ilgın Güler Started Indefinite Hunger Strike
Ilgın Güler, one of the workers of the People's Cinema, announced that she started an indefinite hunger strike on Monday 8 May in front of the Soviet War Memorial in Berlin Treptower Park.
Ilgın Güler expressed why she started the hunger strike with the following words; "The 129a-b law in Germany was legal but unfair. Germany's fascist 129 laws cannot judge revolutionaries. We are revolutionaries, not criminals." Güler underlined that Germany waged two wars of division and massacred 50 million people at the end of these wars, and that Germany, whose past is known for fascism and is responsible for the massacre of millions of people, cannot judge revolutionaries.
"They are afraid of our red flags, symbolized by the blood of the peoples since the Paris Commune in 1871 and the prices they paid against imperialism and fascism!" Güler said and continued his speech as follows; "In the face of the intense security measures taken by the police in the Soviet War Memorial in Treptower Park, our resister Eda Deniz Haydaroğlu and our friends were stopped by the police because they brought our red flags to the area. Why is the German state so afraid of the red flags? This fear is useless in a hurry!
Our resistance fighter and her friends, who had received permission for the action, were constantly followed by plainclothes police even after they entered the area.
Germany, which bans the flag of socialism with the Sickle-Hammer, is afraid even of red flags..."
Ilgın Güler said, "Abolish the fascist 129a-b law! Let our 4 arrested friends be tried without arrest!
Down with fascism, long live our struggle! Victory will be ours and our peoples' resistance against fascism!" emphasising that Eda Deniz Haydaroğlu was given a red carnation and started an indefinite hunger strike.
Before the statement was made, a moment of silence was held in the room under the Soviet War monument.
At this time, when a member of the public unfurled the sickle-hammer flag from the stairs of the monument and waved it, the police officers quickly came to the area where the monument was located.
The police wanted to prevent the People's Front, not the flag-waver. The People's Front and Eda Deniz Haydaroğlu, who was in the resistance, said that they had a permit for the action and that it was legal for them to enter the area, and that the red flag was also permitted and that the attempt of the security forces to prevent them was not legal.
A hunger strike is underway in Germany for the release of Özgül Emre, a revolutionary journalist, along with İhsan Cibelik, Serkan Küpeli, a member of the music group, Grup Yorum, who was arrested and detained in May 2022. And Hasan Unutan, a committed citizen against fascism, arrested and detained in February 2023.
