"Early and effective prevention and control measures taken by the Syrian government have made it possible to contain the spread of the virus and the health crisis in time, as confirmed by the World Health Organization (WHO)," said the Russian diplomat.
"We believe that Syria, unlike many other countries, is able to meet the health challenge posed by the new coronavirus outbreak by relying on its capabilities, even though it has been facing a devastating war for the past nine years, because the Syrian health system is in good shape and effectively active and all the necessary prevention and measures have been taken by the relevant agencies," the Russian ambassador said on a diplomatic mission to Damascus.
Alexander Efimov, said that so far Russia had not received any request for assistance from Syria and if such a request was received, Moscow would immediately consider it and look into ways of providing emergency assistance to meet the needs of this friendly country at this time of global health crisis.
