Solidarity of the French People's Front with the Palestinian prisoner Maher on hunger strike
The People's Front in France on 1 November supported a hunger strike in solidarity with the Palestinian political prisoner Maher Al-Akhras.
Palestinian prisoner Mahir Al-Ahkras, 49 years old, was on the 98th day of his hunger strike on 1 November to protest against yet another administrative detention imposed by the Zionist occupation regime.
Al-Akhras went on strike as soon as he was sentenced to administrative detention at the end of July, as a sign of rejection of the illegitimate and illegal policy that has been widely condemned around the world.
"My only conditions are freedom or death. Either I will live freely with my children or I will be killed in the name of false justice. This strike is in defence of every Palestinian prisoner, and in defence of my people suffering from the occupation, and my victory in this strike is a victory for the prisoners and for my Palestinian people" Maher Al-Akhras
Israel's systematic use of administrative detention against Palestinian civilians constitutes a serious violation of the Fourth Geneva Convention and Articles 9, 10 and 14 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, as well as constituting war crimes and crimes against humanity. The administrative detention and political imprisonment of thousands of Palestinians are colonial weapons used against the Palestinian people and have affected almost all Palestinian families.
At the same time, the United States, Canada, Britain, the European Union and other imperialist powers - as well as reactionary Arab regimes that are normalizing with Israel, such as the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain - are deeply complicit in these crimes against the Palestinian people, including the ongoing detention of Maher al-Akhras. The military, diplomatic, political and economic support of these powers for the Israeli occupation regime, and their attacks on Palestinian rights inside and outside Palestine, continue to allow the ongoing war crimes and crimes against humanity perpetrated by the Israeli Zionist regime against the Palestinian people.
The French People's Front stressed that the struggle of the resistance fighter Maher Al-Akhras will win, and called on everyone to claim Palestinian prisoners.
