Ali Osman Köse's Cancer Disease is Progressing!
Freedom for the sick prisoners!
The long-term political prisoner in Turkey, Ali Osman Köse was operated on at Trakya University Hospital on May 31 and his entire left kidney was removed due to cancer. According to the pathology tests performed after this surgery, it was revealed that our client had 2nd or 3rd stage cancer.
Although Ali Osman Köse has various diseases the Constitutional Court, which rejected his release request on the grounds that "there is no danger to life" and "health services are provided", is clearly committing a crime.
So we wonder:
- While the cancer is progressing to the 2nd or even the 3rd stage, does the Forensic Medicine Institute provide access to health services, not seeing the cancer that has spread to the entire left kidney and reporting to our client that he can "stay alone in the cell"?
- Does the Edirne Trakya University Hospital provide access to health services, telling Ali Osman Köse that he needs an operation urgently and giving the surgery day 2 months later because the hospital is full?
- Does Tekirdag F Type Prison No. 1 provide access to health services, which does not even have a doctor to make the dressing that needed to be done to our client after his delayed surgery?
His lawyers have again sent an application to the Forensic Medicine Institue to confirm his incapacity.
So we call the Forensic Institute to provide this time a truthful report.
The Forensic Medicine Institute´s initial decision was not a medical , but a political one. It did what it was told to do by the AKP government.
We call on the Forensic Institute to do its job and live up to its Hippocratic Oath.
Ali Osman Kose; fell ill with cancer as a result of the severe torture he was subjected to in the Bursa Political Branch in 1994 and the conditions in the F-Type prison (solitary confinement), which was built to abstract the prisoners from their thoughts, to isolate them and make them surrender.
His illness has progressed due to not being diagnosed early.
Ali Osman Kose needs to be released immediately so that his treatment can be carried out in a healthy way. Release is mandatory in terms of Ali Osman Köse's right to life, as well as his right to health and treatment.
We call all our friends, comrades, democratic and progressive people and institutions; to be part of our struggle, which will continue until we get Ali Osman Köse out of the isolation cells and ensure his right to health and treatment.
Let´s ask the Forensic Institute with letters, phone calls etc. to respect the medical principles and not to block the life vital release of sick prisoner Ali Osman Köse. The Institute should do nothing more than doing its work properly.
We also fully support the demand for release and appropriate treatment of all seriously ill prisoners, whose number in Turkey is estimated at around 600.
